We are a local family owned and ran organic refill and lifestyle store and the first one located in Newcastle City Centre. Nil Living began as a weekend market trader at the Quayside and Tynemouth markets early 2019, when our founder recognised a need for more conscious shopping in the North East.

After winning several business awards and with support from Newcastle Council, the Nil Living shore opened in the Grainger Market in September '19 becoming the first zero waste store in the city.

The concept of our zero waste shop, also known as a refill shop, is that customers bring their own containers (this can be anything from jam jars to sandwich bags, to old plastic takeaway containers) to refill with the range of products you can see on this website.

We have also recently stretched our range into Fresh Organic Fruit, Vegetables and Herbs. No subscription service necessary!

The main aim is to reduce the use of plastic and packaging to reduce our overall impact on the planet, but we also want to create a strong sense of community by hosting events and sharing information, and being inclusive and accessible with our pricing. 

We make every effort to source the most ethical products. Most of our food products are Organic, Vegan and produced or made in Europe. We have a number of small North East based suppliers as we love to source locally and support fellow independent businesses, as well as sourcing products from other UK creators and ethical wholesalers.

All of our household cleaning and personal care products are free from chemicals, vegan, cruelty-free, and made in the UK. We use circular suppliers meaning we also reuse and refill our containers.
