Vital Wheat Gluten (100G)

Vital wheat gluten is a powdered flour that is not actually a flour! It is made from wheat flour and undergoes a dehydration process to remove any other ingredients found in flour leaving almost pure activated gluten and very little starch content. Once it is dehydrated it is then dried and made into a powder which can be used for baking bread and cakes.

Vital wheat gluten is a fantastic ingredient to add to baking recipes such as bread as it adds an elasticated texture that is great for kneading dough. It can add a great crunchy texture to breads such as rye, which naturally has a low gluten content and can be a difficult ingredient to use during bread making. To use organic vital wheat gluten simply add a few tablespoons to a bread recipe to help improve a bake that will be enjoyed by everyone.

Wheat meat or wheat gluten as it can sometimes be referred to is naturally low in calories, fat and carbohydrates and is soy-free and extremely versatile in the kitchen. Try thinking outside the box and create your own homemade seitan to use in a wide variety of savoury meals such as stew and dumplings or vegan seitan sausages! It can be used in place of chicken, beef or pork depending on how you choose to flavour it. Seitan takes on flavours and spices well making it easy to adapt to endless recipes. Organic vital wheat gluten will soon become your favourite ingredient - and a tablespoon goes a long way so remember to use it sparingly!
